WeWork Takes 4 More Floors Of Office Space In FiDi

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — The co-working space company WeWork is taking over another four floors of office space in the Financial District, the real estate company, Helmsley Spear, that helped ink the deal confirmed.

Commercial Observer first reported WeWork, co-founded by Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey in 2010, signed a 15-year lease on 56,000 square feet of space at 83 Maiden Lane.

The office building, on Maiden Lane between Williams and Gold streets, will now hold WeWork on the third through sixth floors, according to a release.

WeWork has "continued to have a strong appetite for additional locations in the Downtown FiDi marketplace which continues its transformation into a 24/7 location with a thriving office, residential and hospitality segments," Andrew Simon of Helmsley Spear, the firm that negotiated the deal, said in a statement.

The co-working space behemoth is the ninth largest private sector tenant in Lower Manhattan, with more than 1 million square feet of space after opening its first location in the district in 2013, according to a February report from the Downtown Alliance Business Improvement District.
